In this role you will assist a team in the development of advanced high temperatures materials with a focus on the development of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) for commercial and military gas turbine engines.
Specific job responsibilities will include:
Execution of laboratory experiments to advance development of advanced high temperature materials, particularly ceramic matrix composites specializing in:
Fabric treatment and composite layup
Preparation, documentation, and analysis of microstructural samples using equipment including optical microscopes and Nikon cameras.
Operation of Keyence optical microscopes for material characterization
Machining of ceramic matrix composite materials
Preparation of mechanical test specimens
Execution of EHS and ACE activities for maintaining laboratory equipment and workspaces
Assistance of senior personnel with chemical vapor infiltration/deposition equipment
The ability to perform occasional overtime work including possibly on nights or weekends is required.
Basic Qualifications:
HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training)
US citizenship is required
Must be able to obtain a security clearance
4+ years of combined experience as a technician in the areas of composite fabrication, set-up and execution of experimental tests, microstructural sample preparation, machining, preparation of mechanical test specimens, and equipment maintenance
Software skills that include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree from technical or business school
The candidate must have excellent teamworking and problem-solving skills
Attention to experimental details and documentation is critical
Experience fabricating composite lay-ups of various geometries
Experience in use of image analysis tools including Nikon, ImageJ and Keyence
Active security clearance
