This Summer Internship is:
May-August, 12 weeks
In Dallas, Texas at their Headquarters Building
Full-time, 40hrs a week M-F during normal business hours
Workplace flexibility depends on the Team – they expect the Intern’s schedule of onsite/remote work to mirror that of their Team. The majority of roles will allow for occasional remote work.
Interns will receive any needed equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship as well as a living stipend and internet stipend paid out one time on your first paycheck (less applicable taxes).
The Maintenance Programs Department provides the framework for SWA’s fleet management through the implementation of a maintenance program & policies that will reduce premature replacement costs, maintain stable fleet readiness capabilities, and prevent the deterioration of the aircraft and its systems. They ensure that the SWA fleet will meet its operational tempo and the capability of the fleet to meet network demands.
The Team is is focused on the operational aspect of the program and ensures that all SWA maintenance is compliant and that the intent of the program is properly executed through their various scheduled maintenance packaging schemes. The second Team is responsible for the management of the program data in the enterprise data warehousing environment.
The Maintenance Programs & Compliance Intern will assist this department with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Review of SWA Maintenance Program for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
Updating and auditing of computer based systems for tracking of SWA Maintenance Program requirements.
Assist in review of requested changes to SWA Maintenance Program and associated work instructions.
Analytical support for projects and prepare various periodic or ad hoc analysis reports
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
Must be at least 18 years of age
To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at time of application (minimum of 12 credit hours)
Minimum of Junior level by hours (60+) at the start of the internship
Minimum of a 2.75 or above cumulative GPA
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by start date to comply with Executive Order 14042, which requires employees of federal contractors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
EDUCATION:
Progress towards degree in Aerospace Engineering, Engineering, Aviation Maintenance/Technology, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related degree.
SKILLS:
Strong database management skills preferred (Excel, Access, or similar)
Basic understanding of root cause, risk analysis, and/or trend analysis
Data mining, data science and/or modeling experience preferred
Self-starter, critical thinker and innovator of ideas that could lower cost and increase value for SWA
Aviation knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm preferred
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines
Problem solving ability with strong written/verbal communications skills
Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a Team
Pursuing an A&P license is preferred
TIME COMMITMENT:
Full-time, 40 hours/week. M-F during normal business hours
PAY:
$18.00 per hour + flight privileges
OTHER INFORMATION:
This position is located in Dallas, Texas at the Southwest Airlines Headquarters building. Interns will be able to work a hybrid schedule that mirrors their Team.
