Air India unveils new logo
Air India retained the red and white, with a dash of purple and gold in the new logo. The new logo signifies aspiration, possibilities and confidence.
The underbelly of the aircraft will have Air India wordmark. It sits on an Air India red window shape applied to the underside of the fuselage to allow aircraft to be recognised easily from below when flying at a low altitude. A hero gold frame is applied as surrounding highlight to the solid Air India underbelly red frame shape.
The tailfin along with premium metallic gold is supported by two supporting window frame shapes in Air India red and purple. It will also have a Jaali pattern detail inspired by the chakra from the original logo.
Speaking at the event, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said they have been at work during the last 15 months on rebranding journey. “This is a special moment for us. We are fully committed on this journey to make Air India a world class airline. New vision for Air India comes in the back drop of new resurgent India,” he said.
Chandrasekaran added that in the last 12 months, Air India has put together a strong team and is focusing on upgrading all HR aspects in the airline. “Our fleet requires a little of work. While we have placed one of the largest aircraft orders, it will take time for new planes to arrive. In the meanwhile we have to refurbish and get our current fleet to acceptable levels,” he added.
He also said that IT systems are being put in place and the airline will deploy the best of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The airline is aiming for best tech in 9-10 months.
Air India CEO Cambell Wilson said the airline has launched a new website with new features and new tools. He further added that in just a few months, first A350 will join the Air India fleet and first wide body aircraft in just a year.
Wilson added that by the end of the year, 33% of existing wide body fleet will come with new offerings. “There will be new seats in every cabin, new in-flight entertainment system and in-flight internet connectivity for the first time. The airline will also have new menus,” he said.
Conclusion
Speaking about Maharaja, Wilson said, “the rumours of Maharaja's death are greatly exaggerated, he will live on.” Lydian Nadhaswaram, accompanied by his sister Amirthavarshini, gave a mesmerising performance during the rebranding event of Air India. They presented a breathtaking rendition of the iconic song "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara." Lydian, hailing from Chennai, is the winner of US Network CBS's show "The World's Best".
