A technical snag forced a Malaysia Airlines flight to return to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad shortly after it took off. The incident occurred early Thursday morning after the pilot saw sparks from one of the engines, 14 minutes after the take-off.

The airlines spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft safely landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and all passengers and crew disembarked safely.
"Malaysia Airlines confirms that flight MH199 from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur on 20 June 2024 returned to Hyderabad due to an issue with one of the engines during climb after take-off."
The aircraft safely landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 03:21 am local time; all passengers and crew disembarked safely. Affected passengers will be reallocated to other flights for their continued journey. The aircraft is currently on ground for further inspection. Safety remains of utmost importance to Malaysia Airlines," said the spokesperson.
The flight, with 138 passengers on board, was flying from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur.
Airport sources confirmed that Flight MH 199, scheduled for 12:15 am, departed at 12:45 am but immediately turned back due to a technical issue.
Other incidences
Last month, RGIA witnessed a similar incident involving a Kochi-bound Indigo flight, which was stuck on the runway due to technical issues.
During the delay, passengers were kept informed about the delay and provided with refreshments, as stated in an official statement from the airline.
Among the passengers onboard were significant figures including Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Legislators Tellam Venkatarao, Jare Adinarayana, Payam Venkateshwarlu along with followers Muvva Vijayababu and Tulluri Brahmaiah, as per reports.
On June 18, Indigo flight 6E 2521 from Delhi to Bagdogra faced a four-hour delay due to high ground temperatures affecting airport operations. Focusing on passenger safety, the flight departed at 5:51 pm instead of its scheduled 2:10 pm departure time.
Earlier, on June 8, another incident was reported at the Mumbai Airport. The Air India flight had taken off while the IndiGo flight was cleared to land on the same runway, which led to safety concerns. IndiGo, focusing on its commitment to safety, reported the incident according to protocol.
