It looks like one needs to wait until April 2025 to catch a flight from the Noida International Airport (NIA.) Initially, operations at NIA were expected to begin from the end of 2024, however, due to delays in construction activity the date has been pushed to 2025.
Noida International Airport to start in April 2025
As per the latest update shared by the airport, the work on the runway, passenger terminal and Air Traffic Control Tower is at an advanced stage.
In a statement, NIA said, “In view of the current construction status, we expect to begin commercial operations by the end of April 2025. We are working together with our EPC contractor Tata Projects Limited and with other stakeholders to keep the pace of construction activities and preparations for operational readiness high. We are committed to our goal of delivering a sustainable and world-class airport for Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.”
Former Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had previously said that the Noida Airport would begin commercial operations from the end of 2024. Last year, Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of NIA, also confirmed that they are committed to their deadline and will begin operations at the airport by the end of 2024. As per sources, the delay in the construction activity is due to supply chain constraints especially due to a shortage of a special kind of steel.
Over the past few months, NIA has awarded concessions for ground handling, commercial areas and important maintenance contracts. NIA has also signed agreements with IndiGo and Akasa for flight connections. In April this year, NIA conducted its first calibration flight to ensure seamless functioning of the navigation systems. A DVOR calibration flight using Beechcraft King Air B300, took off from the airport to check the navigation equipment.
